What is HyperTransport Technology?
HyperTransporttechnology is a high speed, low latency, scalable point-to-point
link for interconnecting ICs on boards. It can be significantly faster
than a PCI bus for an equivalent number of pins. HyperTransport, previously
codenamed as Lightning Data Transport (LDT), provides the bandwidth and
flexibility critical for today's networking and computing platforms while
retaining the fundamental programming model of PCI. HyperTransportwas
invented by AMD and perfected with the help of several partners throughout
the industry. HyperTransportTechnology Consortium, a non-profit corporation,
supports the future development and adoption of the HyperTransportspecifications.
The technology targets networking, telecommunications, computers and embedded
systems and any application where high speed, low latency and scalability
are necessary.

How can I get more information about
HyperTransport technology?
Visit the HyperTransportconsortium web site at www.hypertransport.org.
The FAQ in that site gives more information on the HyperTransporttechnology.
The latest version of the HyperTransportI/O Link Specification (1.03)
is now available for public download. Members of the consortium have access
to all technical specifications and are invited to participate in consortium
meetings.

Do I have to join the HyperTransport consortium
to use the technology?
Yes. Consortium members are granted with a license to use the HyperTransporttechnology in their products. The license is royalty free, however, there
is a membership fee for joining the Consortium.

What is GDA's role in HyperTransporttechnology development?
GDA is a contributor member of HyperTransportconsortium. GDA is committed
to the development of HyperTransporttechnology and its adoption in to
various applications. GDA offers a wide range of IP and design technology
services to enable our customer's next-generation products with HyperTransporttechnology.

What is GDA's HyperTransportprogram?
GDA's HyperTransportprogram is designed to accelerate time to market
for next-generation HyperTransportbased products for their computing
and networking partners. The program is a combination of intellectual
property licensing and design technology services carefully tailored to
accomplish this. RTL and verification IPs and services for design customization,
integration, logic implementation, verification, physical design, board
design, system validation and software design are some key components
of this program.

What is GDA HyperTransportcorner?
GDA HyperTransportcorner is a dedicated web server created to provide
up to date information on GDA's HyperTransportprogram and web based services
to its program partners.

How can I find more information on
GDA's HyperTransportprogram?
Visit GDA HyperTransportcorner for up to date information on GDA's HyperTransportprogram. For more information on the program and IP and services details
you may contact the program coordinator by email.

How do I become a member of GDA's HyperTransportprogram?
Members of this program are our partners who have licensed the HyperTransportIPs from us. Please contact the program coordinator by email for membership
details.

What is GDA's HyperTunnel IP?
HyperTunnel is a reusable RTL implementation of a HyperTransportTunnel
design. It is a fully compliant, silicon-validated design with complete
verification and synthesis environment. The design provides a highly flexible
peripheral interface to user's logic in addition to the upstream and downstream
HyperTransportLink interfaces. Please contact GDA's HyperTransportprogram
coordinator by email for more information on the IP.
Back

What is a HyperTransporttunnel?
HyperTransportprovides a point-to-point physical connection for devices.
In order to connect additional devices, additional HyperTransportinterfaces
are required. A tunnel provides the simplest method of connecting multiple
devices providing 2 HyperTransportinterfaces in addition to the device
logic. Packets received at one interface and not destined for the tunnel
device itself are passed through to the second interface. The specification
for the functionality of the tunnel device is provided as part of the
HyperTransportSpecification.

Is GDA planning a HyperTransportend-device
core?
We do not currently offer this core, but it is in our roadmap.
Back

What are the deliverables in HyperTunnel
IP package?
> Verilog RTL view of the design
> Verification environment complete with models, analyzers and test
cases
> Synthesis environment
> Documentation for design, simulation environment, and synthesis environment
Back

What IO clock speeds are supported
by HyperTunnel?
This design supports up to 800 Mhz DDR. It can be configured to operate
at four other lower speeds: 200, 400, 500 and 600 Mhz.
Back
to top
What technology is targeted for this
IP?
The design is targeted for 0.18u standard cell technologies or better.
Back
to top
Is HyperTunnel silicon proven?
Yes.
Back
to top
Are the HyperTransportPHY Macros part
of HyperTunnel?
No. However, GDA could work with their partners to provide a complete
IP solution for a particular technology including the PHY layer.

What is GDA's standard IP support package?
> One year web based problem reporting and tracking
> On-site training on the design and deliverables
> Up to 80 hours of debug support
> Core updates for one year

What additional services can be purchased
from GDA for creating your HyperTransportsolution?
> Creation of netlist view for a specific technology
> Hard macro implementation for a specific technology
> Verification IPs
> Core customization
> Core Integration
> Complete IC design with HyperTunnel
> HyperTransportbased system design and validation
> Driver development
Back

Will GDA provide core updates for to
every revision of HyperTransportLink Specification?
Yes. It is our intention to do provide core updates to cover future spec
changes. However, the support and release schedule for any future changes
in the specification will actually depend on the extent of change and
the demand for those changes from our partners.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When will HyperTunnel IP be available?
Jan 2002.
Back
to top
Who can license this IP?
All consortium members can license the HyperTunnel IP. Consortium members
are granted with a license to use the HyperTransporttechnology in their
products. The license is royalty free, however, there is a membership
fee for joining the Consortium. GDA will charge a licensing fee for the
HyperTunnel core and support.
Back
to top
What benefits will HyperTunnel IP provide
